Changing Orkut (Official) Themes

June 3, 2008 at 4:40 pm (Interesting, orkut) (, , , )

Recently, I have seen many of friends trying to change orkut themes using fake 3rd party javascript codes which only flood scrapbooks with spam.

Now orkut has introduced its own official themes. In India, they started rolling out 12 themes yesterday. If you can see a link reading “change theme” on the top right corner just before your email id, then you are ready to go. I’ve explained the steps with pictures as I did on my last post.

  • Click on the link “change theme” on the top right corner.change theme
  • Then choose your favorite theme among the displayed ones by clicking on the radio button near the theme.
    choose the theme
  • Now update your account with the new theme by clicking on the “update” below the list. click \'update\'
  • Now you can see your account looking nice with the selected theme.theme changed

If you think your friend has a nice theme, you can get the theme by clicking on the link “get theme” (located on the top rirht corner instead of “change theme”) on his profile page. Now go and make your profiles rock with the new themes. :-)

May 9, 2008 at 10:14 pm (Interesting) (, , , )

Note: The application have changed their options and this trick works no more. If you are interested in orkut see my post on Orkut Official Themes

Orkut has changed a lot ever since the introduction of Open Social Applications. Here is one such new addition that will attract your profile visitors. Recently, when i visited Shankar Ganesh’s profile page , i was welcomed with a nice background music. Out of curiosity, i learned how to add music to my profile page with shankar’s help.

The method is so simple. I’ve explained it step-by- step,

  • First go to your orkut account and select “add apps” link on the left pane.Select \
  • Among the list of applications, select “Music iLike”.

  • On the approval page of Music iLike, click on “add application”.
  • Once it is added, search for your favourite song, here I’m searching for “jana gana mana”.
  • From the search result, add the desired song to your profile.
  • Now get back to Music iLike application by clicking on its link in the left pane.
  • Here change your settings to autoplay ‘Songs’ and click ’save’.
  • That’s it. So simple ! Now get back to your profile, sit back and watch.(listen!?). You can stop the playback anytime by hitting the pause key. Sameway, you can add more than one songs to the application. This is just one feature of that application, find out more for yourself.

Dialup users - Make Orkut load faster with the Low Bandwidth Version

April 13, 2008 at 8:53 am (tech) (, , , )

Orkut today brought out a light and zippier version of the site targeted at users who are accessing it on a dial up or a low bandwidth connection.

Dial up users - in order to activate and use the Orkut site in its stripped down, low bandwidth version, you need to do the following:

  • Go to Orkut ‘General Settings’
  • In the page, under ‘Low Bandwidth’ select ‘Show the low bandwidth version of Orkut’
  • orkut_low_bandwidth_how_to_show_use copy

  • Click ‘Save Changes’

You can now start browsing Orkut in your very low speed dialup connection. It’s really a big time saver too. Images will be missing, but can be loaded only upon request.

Thanks,
